Sydney, Australia – A remarkable and highly unusual case of surrogacy has captured public attention after an Australian woman shared her unique experience of becoming pregnant with her own biological child while simultaneously carrying an embryo for another couple. The woman, who is acting as an altruistic surrogate under Australian law, detailed the intricate timeline of events that led to both pregnancies.According to her explanation, she was following a natural protocol for the surrogacy, timing the embryo transfer with her natural cycle. She revealed that she had sexual intercourse with her husband, using contraception, 11 days before her natural ovulation and 16 days before the intended parents' embryo transfer. Unexpectedly, her body ovulated earlier than usual in that cycle, five days after the unprotected intercourse. This rare biological event resulted in her conceiving her own child. The embryo transfer for the intended parents then proceeded as planned, leading to a dual pregnancy. The woman clarified that Australian surrogacy laws involve non-legally binding contracts, focusing on the agreement to carry and hand over the intended parents' child. She emphasized that all legal and counseling requirements were met through the Queensland Board of Surrogacy. DNA testing will be conducted after birth to confirm parentage, a standard procedure in such cases. The babies, due in December, are currently 22 weeks gestation. The surrogate and intended parents, who met through a mutual friend, plan for the children to grow up knowing each other as friends.
