A small business owner has shared a cautionary tale of alleged fraud, after a customer initiated a chargeback for two luxury baby bags, only for the items to later appear for resale on Facebook Marketplace. The owner, who runs an e-commerce store via Shopify, explained that in February, she received her first-ever chargeback for an order of two baby bags. Despite providing proof of delivery through Australia Post, the customer's bank sided with the customer, resulting in a loss of the sale and a $25 chargeback fee for the business. The owner, a single mother, expressed her frustration, stating that such incidents directly impact her livelihood. She emphasized that her business is transparent, sharing details of their operations and products with their community. She discovered the alleged fraud when she found the same customer reselling the two bags, claiming they were 'used for a few months' but no longer needed. The incident highlights the challenges small businesses face with fraudulent disputes and the importance of direct communication between customers and businesses to resolve issues.
