Condé-sur-Sarthe Prison Attack: Trial Begins in Paris Six Years After the Event A Paris court is hearing the case of Michaël Chiollo, a radicalized inmate, and four other men accused in the March 5, 2019, attack on prison guards at Condé-sur-Sarthe prison in Orne, France. The attack, which involved ceramic knives smuggled into the prison, left two guards severely injured. Chiollo's female accomplice died during the subsequent RAID intervention. The prosecutor, Rémy Heitz, described the attackers' refusal to surrender, shouting "Allah Akbar" repeatedly. Me Laurent-Franck Liénard, representing one of the injured guards, described the lasting trauma his client and his colleague endured. "He wanted to kill those two guards," Liénard stated, emphasizing the severity of the attack. Chiollo has confessed to his actions but denies the involvement of the other four defendants. The trial is expected to last several days and will determine the fate of all five defendants.
