Hungary's MÁV Introduces 50% Ticket Refunds for Delays Over 20 Minutes Budapest, May 28, 2025 – Hungarian Railways (MÁV) will implement a new policy starting this Sunday, May 28th, offering passengers a 50% refund on their ticket price for delays exceeding 20 minutes. The announcement was made by Minister János Lázár in a short video address. "From this Sunday, we're introducing a delay compensation system," stated Minister Lázár, "If your train or bus is delayed by more than 20 minutes, you'll automatically receive 50% of your ticket price back." The policy applies to all tickets, whether purchased at a ticket counter, a vending machine, or digitally through the MÁV+ app. For digital purchases, the refund will be automatically processed and credited to the passenger's account. For other tickets, refunds will be available at ticket offices. This initiative is part of a larger modernization effort by Hungarian Railways to improve customer satisfaction and transparency. The new policy is expected to benefit thousands of passengers annually.
