Sarawak's Petronas Dispute: Premier Seeks Legal Counsel
Sarawak's Claim Against Petronas Referred to Legal Experts KUCHING, SARAWAK – The Sarawak state government's claim against Petronas has been referred to legal experts for review. This decision was announced by Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Abang Openg following a declaration signed yesterday between the Sarawak and Federal governments. The claim does not automatically invalidate any existing agreements. "Whether the claim is suspended or not will be left to the relevant authorities as it needs to follow due process," said Abang Johari in a press conference today. He made these comments following questions about the notice of claim issued by the Ministry of Utilities and Telecommunications Sarawak against Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd. The declaration signed yesterday between the Federal and Sarawak governments outlines a framework for collaboration between Petronas and Petros, the Sarawak oil and gas company. This collaboration aims to ensure that both entities work together on oil and gas operations in Sarawak in accordance with the laws of both the Federal and Sarawak governments. This development marks a significant step in the ongoing relationship between the Sarawak government and Petronas, highlighting the importance of legal processes in resolving complex issues.
