According to Melaka Tengah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Pattik, the victim reported the assault to authorities before the suspect was apprehended by members of the public near a restaurant in Bukit Beruang around 1 PM the following day. "The victim, understandably shaken, attempted to flee but a struggle ensued, resulting in injuries to her arm." said Assistant Commissioner Pattik. The suspect, a 31-year-old who works as a restaurant assistant, was apprehended and is currently under investigation. He has a prior record involving an immigration offense. The case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for outraging a woman's modesty.
