Selangor MB: Retirement Age Hike Needs Careful Review
Selangor's Menteri Besar Weighs in on Raising Retirement Age to 65 Selangor, Malaysia – The proposal to extend the retirement age in Malaysia to 65 has sparked considerable debate. Adding to the discussion, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari recently commented on the matter during a press conference. He stressed the need for a thorough review of the proposal, acknowledging the benefits of retaining experienced workers while also emphasizing the importance of providing opportunities for younger individuals to progress in their careers. "There are both good and bad aspects," said Amirudin Shari. "The positive is that we can retain the experience of those with skills and extensive experience. However, we must also give space to younger people to rise." To address potential cost concerns associated with an extended retirement age, Amirudin Shari suggested exploring options such as contracts for specific roles, a strategy that could allow the government to manage expenses more effectively. The proposal is expected to be reviewed by the relevant government bodies, including the Public Service Department (JPA).
