Diesel Smuggling Ring Busted in Malaysia: Five Arrested, Thousands of Liters Seized
Five Arrested in Malaysian Diesel Smuggling Ring A major raid in Taman Sri Muda, Shah Alam, Selangor, has resulted in the arrest of five individuals suspected of embezzling subsidized diesel fuel. The operation, a joint effort between the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) and the Selangor police contingent, uncovered approximately 7,000 liters of diesel illegally obtained using 'fleet cards'. The estimated value of the seized fuel is RM19,390. According to Pengarah KPDN Selangor, Mohamad Zuhairee Mat Radie, "The raid was the result of intelligence work that tracked the illegal activity." The raid took place at a clandestine storage facility. Authorities also seized various vehicles used in the operation, including a 30-ton tanker truck, four canvas trucks, two bonded trucks, and a van. The suspects, aged between 30 and 45, were apprehended while actively transferring diesel from a bonded lorry to a tanker truck. They were unable to escape and are now assisting in the investigation. Mr. Radie emphasized that his department would continue to pursue those involved, citing Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961. This successful raid highlights the ongoing efforts to combat fuel subsidy abuse and ensure fair distribution of resources.
