Anwar Ibrahim Appeals High Court Decision, Postponement Granted
Anwar Ibrahim's Appeal: High Court Decision Challenged Malaysia's Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, has filed an appeal against a High Court decision dismissing his request to refer eight legal questions to the Federal Court. The case centers on Anwar's immunity from lawsuits. The appeal was submitted on June 5th, 2025, at 6:44 PM, to the Court of Appeal's Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya, via his legal team led by lawyer Zain Ma Gad Murad. The High Court judge, Justice Ros Mawar Rozin, rejected Anwar's initial request. The appeal challenges the entirety of Justice Rozin's decision. According to the notice of appeal, the questions touch upon Anwar's immunity from a lawsuit filed by former investigator Muhammad Yusuf Roter, concerning allegations of sexual assault. Anwar's lawyer, Datuk Seri K Raja Segara, confirmed the appeal to the media. The appeal also includes a request to postpone the trial, initially scheduled for June 16th. The court has ordered a seven-day postponement, rescheduling the hearing for June 16-19 and 23-25. In a press conference, Raja Segara explained that the lawsuit could hinder Anwar's executive duties and undermine the principle of separation of powers. The court will consider whether the lawsuit could negatively impact Anwar's ability to perform his duties.
