No Travel Ban on Fahmi Reza, Clarifies Malaysian IGP
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – June 8, 2025 – Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razaruddin Husain has issued a statement addressing media reports and public reaction to the alleged travel restrictions imposed on artist and activist Fahmi Reza. The IGP clarified that, while Fahmi Reza's name was added to a movement monitoring list for record-keeping following an ongoing investigation, there are currently no official restrictions on his movement. "The inclusion of his name is part of our standard procedure for record-keeping and internal police reference," said Tan Sri Razaruddin, as seen in the Malaysia Gazette video report. The IGP added that the police are committed to protecting the rights of all Malaysians to freedom of movement, and that any perceived restrictions were due to a misunderstanding during a border check. The police are investigating the incident and taking appropriate action to improve procedures to prevent similar misunderstandings in the future. This statement assures the public that the police are committed to upholding the rights of all citizens.
