Pediatric OT Warns of Choking Hazards in Baby Feeding Videos
A pediatric occupational therapist from the US recently shared a video highlighting crucial baby safety measures during the introduction of solid foods. The video, which has gained significant traction online, focuses on preventing choking hazards. The therapist, Shannon, emphasizes the importance of observing readiness signs in infants before starting solids. These signs include the baby's ability to sit unsupported, demonstrate head control, and show interest in food. She also warns against the use of Bumbo seats during feeding, citing the increased risk of choking due to the seat's posture. "You should never feed your baby in the original Bumbo," Shannon states, "It puts them in a C-curved position, increasing choking chances." She also stressed the importance of self-feeding, noting that babies who can bring food to their own mouths are less likely to choke. The video serves as a timely reminder for parents to prioritize baby safety and follow recommended guidelines when introducing solid foods.
