Rome's Pietralata District Undergoing Major Urban Transformation Rome, Italy – Maurizio Veloccia, Assessor for Urban Planning and the '15-Minute City' of Rome Capital, recently conducted an inspection in the Pietralata district, providing updates on the ongoing urban regeneration project, including the new AS Roma stadium. The visit focused on verifying the progress of preparatory works for the stadium and other significant interventions aimed at profoundly transforming the area. During the inspection, Assessor Veloccia announced a crucial development: Rome Capital has successfully reclaimed an area previously occupied illegally by a car dismantler for decades. This recovery is a fundamental step that will now allow archaeological excavations to proceed in the cleared space. Beyond the stadium, the Pietralata area is set to host several other important projects. The Sapienza University's student residence and offices are nearing completion, and the new Rome Technopole is also being established. Significant infrastructural works are underway to connect the district with the Quintiliani Metro B station, enhancing accessibility for residents and visitors. Furthermore, the plans include the creation of a large urban park, covering approximately 7 hectares, located behind the future stadium. This green space is intended to be fully accessible and safe for public enjoyment. Assessor Veloccia highlighted that areas previously considered dangerous due to issues like drug dealing and prostitution will be progressively reclaimed and made secure through ongoing remediation efforts. The comprehensive regeneration of Pietralata aims to build a more modern, accessible, and inclusive city.
