Cardi B Testifies in Court, Denies Assault and Racial Slur Allegations

Cardi B Addresses Allegations in Los Angeles Civil Assault Trial Los Angeles, CA – Recording artist Cardi B appeared in Los Angeles County Superior Court this week to provide testimony in a civil assault trial, where she is being sued by Emani Ellis, a former security guard. Ellis alleges that Cardi B assaulted her and used a racial epithet during an incident in February 2018, when the rapper was pregnant and attending an OB-GYN appointment. During her testimony on Tuesday, August 26, Cardi B directly addressed the accusations. When questioned by Ellis's attorney, Rob Rosen, about whether she spit on or physically assaulted Ms. Ellis, Cardi B firmly stated, "Absolutely not." She further denied using the N-word racial epithet with Ms. Ellis. "No," she responded to the direct question. The courtroom exchange also saw a moment of clarification regarding Cardi B's heritage. After an objection for relevance was sustained when Rosen inquired about her ethnic background, the judge rephrased the question, asking if she considered herself African American. Cardi B clarified, "I consider myself Afro Caribbean." The trial, now in its second day, has been marked by contentious questioning from Ellis's lawyer, Rob Rosen. According to reports from legal affairs journalist Meghann Cuniff, Rosen's approach has frequently drawn objections from Cardi B's lawyer, Peter Anderson, many of which were sustained by Judge Ian Fusselman for relevance. Cardi B herself humorously referred to the intense cross-examination as "a debate." The trial continues as both sides present their cases.
