KOLKATA, India – Protesters took to the streets in Kolkata, India, on Friday to voice their opposition to recent US military strikes against Iran. The demonstration saw a significant turnout, with participants carrying banners and chanting slogans condemning the American actions. During the protest, a cardboard effigy depicting former US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was publicly set ablaze, symbolizing the protesters' strong disapproval of their policies. The effigy, which featured caricatured likenesses of both leaders, was engulfed in flames as the crowd continued to express their discontent. Demonstrators held signs, some of which called for an "immediate end to the unjust war between Iran and Israel." Police were present at the scene, maintaining order as the protest unfolded. A segment of the demonstration also showed participants marching in a procession, carrying red flags bearing the acronym "SUCI," indicating the involvement of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) party in the rally.
