Mount Athos, Greece – On June 18, 2025, a hiker was successfully rescued from the summit of Mount Athos following a severe fall. According to a friend of the injured individual, identified as Stefan from Romania, the group of four had been hiking from Panagia to Athos when his friend, Alexandru, fell. 'He was not responding, he was so bad. The cranium was open, the face was cut, and the nose was broken,' Stefan recounted, describing the critical condition of his friend who was losing a significant amount of blood. Stefan immediately contacted emergency services (112), and subsequently spoke with Police Officer Mihail from Agia Anna. Officer Mihail promptly called for a helicopter, which arrived approximately one hour later to evacuate the injured hiker. Stefan expressed profound gratitude to the Greek police and the country for their rapid and effective response, stating, 'Thank you to Greece, Greek police, Greek managed to save our friend.' The rescued hiker is now reportedly in good condition.
