Punggol Cat Euthanized: Vehicular Accident, Not Cruelty, Says NParks
Injured Punggol Community Cat Euthanized; NParks Rules Out Cruelty A male tabby cat found severely injured near Block 326B Sumang Walk in Punggol, Singapore, between May 11 and 12, 2025, has been euthanized. The National Parks Board (NParks) investigated the incident and concluded that the cat's injuries were most likely caused by a vehicular accident. There was no evidence to suggest animal cruelty. "We have assessed that it is likely that the cat sustained its injuries due to a vehicular accident, and there was no evidence to suggest a deliberate act of animal cruelty," stated Joshua Teoh, Director of Enforcement and Investigation at NParks, in a press statement. NParks was notified on May 12 and immediately sent the cat to a private veterinary clinic. After tracing the cat's microchip, they informed the community cat caregiver. Due to the severity of its injuries, an animal welfare group made the difficult decision to euthanize the cat on welfare grounds. A post-mortem examination was not conducted. This incident underscores the risks faced by community cats in urban environments and highlights the complexities of animal welfare decisions. NParks' swift response and transparent investigation demonstrate their commitment to animal care.
