Cork homeowner’s genius money-making hack has tourists paying up
Now, one clever Cork homeowner has figured out exactly what that notorious view is worth — and they're charging for it.
Cobh, Ireland - Visitors to the picturesque town of Cobh, famous for its colorful 'Deck of Cards' houses and the towering St. Colman's Cathedral, are discovering a unique way to capture the perfect photo. A local family residing on Spy Hill has opened their private garden to tourists, offering an unobstructed vantage point of the iconic terraced homes with the cathedral in the background. Traditionally, obtaining a clear shot of the 'Deck of Cards' houses from Spy Hill required navigating high walls and difficult angles. However, a handwritten sign in front of a private residence now invites "Dear Tourists" to take photos from their garden. The family requests a small donation of €2, or more, which they state is for their son's "Ferrari fund." During recent visits, donations were reportedly collected in a wheelbarrow, adding to the charm of the experience. This initiative provides a convenient and friendly solution for photographers and sightseers, allowing them to enjoy the stunning view while contributing to a local family. The 'Deck of Cards' houses are located on West View, with the special viewing spot accessible from Spy Hill.
