Kazakhstan's North Kazakhstan Region Booms: 6.2% Growth, But Water Safety Remains a Concern
North Kazakhstan Region Reports 6.2% Economic Growth in 2025 The North Kazakhstan region (SKO) of Kazakhstan has announced robust economic growth, reaching 6.2% in the first four months of 2025. This positive trend is evident across various sectors, including trade, agriculture, industry, housing, and communications. Construction has been a particularly strong performer, registering growth exceeding 29%. Gauyez Nurmuhambetov, Akim of the Severo-Kazakhstan region, stated, “This matter is under constant supervision. The head of state has repeatedly stressed that the pace of economic growth in the region should not fall below 6%. This task covers all areas—from industry and agriculture to the service sector and small businesses.” However, concerns remain about water safety. Jomart Askarov, head of the SKO Department of Emergency Situations, noted that despite safety measures, approximately 50 people drowned in the region over the past five years. He added, “The forces and resources of the units are fully prepared. Rescue boats, diving equipment and special clothing have been prepared.” The region is actively preparing for the summer season, with plans to provide summer activities for 95% of children aged 1 to 10. Aynagul Suraganova, head of the SKO Department of Education, highlighted the efforts to ensure safe and engaging summer programs. The positive economic outlook, coupled with the proactive approach to water safety, suggests a promising future for the region.
