Expert debunks popular myth about energy industry: 'A huge misconception'
Clean energy is creating more jobs, and doing it more sustainably. That’s the message behind a TikTok video that’s making waves for how it challenges…
A recent video by content creator Nate Wilbourne has sparked discussion regarding job creation in New Zealand's energy sector. Wilbourne, referencing a working paper from the World Resources Institute titled "The Green Jobs Advantage," asserts that clean energy investments generate significantly more employment opportunities than the fossil fuel industry. According to the report cited, investing in solar photovoltaic (PV) technology creates 1.5 times as many jobs as fossil fuels per million US dollars invested. Furthermore, ecosystem restoration, often referred to as "jobs for nature," yields 3.7 times more jobs per million US dollars than oil and gas production. Wilbourne highlighted that transitioning to clean energy to power all of New Zealand would open up substantial job opportunities, particularly local roles in constructing wind turbines, installing solar panels, and upgrading homes and businesses for energy efficiency. He concluded that New Zealand already possesses the necessary technology for a clean and sustainable energy future, requiring only strategic investment.
