Antioch, CA Launches $100,000 Homebuyer Assistance Program The city of Antioch is addressing its housing crisis with a new program offering up to $100,000 in assistance to first-time homebuyers. This initiative targets low-to-moderate-income households who either live or work within the city limits. Thai Whitaker, a Concord resident, expressed her hope that the program will give her a much-needed boost in purchasing a home in the Bay Area. "It's a little tough for me," she said, highlighting the challenges of the expensive Bay Area real estate market. The program requires participants to complete a six-hour homebuyer education course through the Department of Housing and Urban Development before applying. Walter Zhovreboff, a director with the Bay Area Affordable Homeownership Alliance, praised the program, stating that it's "a great way to stimulate ownership versus renting." The city anticipates assisting 12 to 15 families through this program in the coming year. An informational workshop will be held virtually on May 22nd, 2025, to provide details on eligibility and the application process.
