LUBBOCK, TEXAS – A Lubbock County Sheriff's deputy was dramatically rescued by a group of Good Samaritans on September 8 after a semi-truck collision left him dangling precariously off a highway overpass. The incident, which occurred while deputies were assisting a driver, has drawn widespread praise for the quick-thinking citizens who intervened. According to the Sheriff's Department, two deputies were outside their parked patrol cars, assisting a driver, when a semi-truck crashed into one of their vehicles. This impact pinned the deputies against the guardrail, with one left hanging over the edge of the overpass. Witnesses from a nearby gas station immediately rushed to the scene. "Heard a crash, someone had hit that cruiser and pinned those two guys up against the wall," one rescuer stated, describing the chaotic moments. The citizens quickly organized, bringing a ladder and using ropes to hoist the dangling deputy to safety. Another rescuer commented, "We got a ladder, so only thing we can do is just grab and help out as best we can." The Lubbock County Sheriff's Office issued a statement expressing profound gratitude: "Thank you Lubbock citizens for watching over our deputies." Officials have confirmed that all individuals involved in the crash are expected to recover. The investigation into the semi-truck crash is ongoing.
