Philippines to Slash Pork Prices by ₱120: DA's New Plan to Ease Food Costs
The Department of Agriculture (DA) in the Philippines is implementing a plan to lower the price of pork in local markets. The DA aims to reduce pork prices by as much as ₱120 per kilogram. This initiative is a response to high pork prices, partly attributed to supply chain issues and the impact of African swine fever. News5's Frontline Express segment captured interviews with market vendors and DA officials. One vendor commented on the current high prices, stating, "The price of pork is too high, it's difficult for us to make a profit." The DA's plan involves direct purchases from hog farms and distribution to retailers, eliminating middlemen to lower costs. The DA expects the initiative to be fully implemented by late July or early August. This plan offers a potential solution to a significant economic concern impacting many Filipinos.
