License Plate Cover-Up: Filipino Motorists Try to Outsmart No Contact Apprehension Policy
Motorists in the Philippines are finding creative ways to circumvent the No Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP), prompting warnings from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). The NCAP, designed to automate traffic violation enforcement, is being undermined by motorists who are concealing their license plates. "Para-paraan ang mga motorista para utakan ang No Contact Apprehension Policy," stated a News5 report, highlighting the lengths some drivers are going to avoid fines. The report showed various examples of license plate concealment, from using tape to employing makeshift covers. Romando Artes, MMDA Chairman, emphasized that violators will be apprehended and fined ₱5,000. "We are monitoring CCTV footage and will prosecute those caught," Artes confirmed. Despite the initial high number of violations, the MMDA reports a decrease in recent days, indicating some success in enforcement. The ongoing EDSA rehabilitation project is also expected to exacerbate traffic issues, emphasizing the need for compliance with traffic regulations.
