Durban School in Crisis: Parents Protest Principal's Alleged Misconduct
Westville Senior Primary School in Durban is facing a crisis. Parents have protested for three years, demanding action against the principal for alleged sexual and financial misconduct. Their complaints, initially raised three years ago, have been largely ignored. The principal was briefly suspended but returned to work due to a lack of formal charges within the specified timeframe. Thirona Moodley, CEO of Naptosa (KwaZulu-Natal), confirmed that the union has been working tirelessly to get the Department of Education to act decisively. Moodley stated, "We have been working tirelessly to get the department to act decisively and quickly to resolve the issues of a very good school in the community." The situation has led to low teacher morale and several resignations. While Moodley is unaware of any criminal charges filed, she confirms a restraining order was issued against a school governing body member, indicating ongoing legal issues. The incident underscores the need for swift and effective responses to allegations of misconduct in educational institutions.
