Urgent Plea: Medellín Seeks Millions to Continue Search for Missing at La Escombrera
Medellín and the JEP launch an urgent appeal to the Colombian government for 3.5 billion pesos to continue the search for missing persons in La Escombrera. The search, which has already recovered four bodies, is crucial for bringing closure to families. Mayor Federico Gutiérrez emphasized the need for continued funding, stating, "This isn't just about talking; it's about investing resources and showing we're on the side of the victims." Alejandro Ramelli, President of the JEP, added, "It's urgent that measures are taken so that we don't suspend the search until we have finished intervening in the designated areas." The JEP and the Mayor's Office have already invested 9 billion pesos in the operation. The search is expected to continue into June, focusing on a new area where hundreds of missing persons are believed to be buried.
