Unsolved Disappearances of Young Women in Cartagena Spark Outrage and Demand for Justice
Cartagena, Colombia is grappling with a series of unsolved disappearances of young women. The most recent case involves Tatiana Hernandez, a 23-year-old medical student missing since April 13th. Her mother, Lucy Diaz, expressed her frustration with the lack of progress in the investigation, stating, "The physical search isn't enough; the support isn't enough, and that's why I continue to search daily in the streets of Cartagena because my daughter is alive." Other cases highlighted include Alexandrith Sarmiento, missing since 2021, and Natalia Buitrago, missing since 2011. Authorities have used advanced technology, including a submersible robot, in the search for Hernandez, but so far, have found nothing. The ongoing investigations underscore the need for increased attention to the safety of women in Cartagena.
