Rescued Parrot's 32-Year Ordeal Highlights Colombia's Wildlife Trafficking Problem
A parrot's 32-year ordeal ends with a rescue in Antioquia, Colombia. A recent news report by Noticias Caracol highlighted the plight of a green parrot discovered in Antioquia after three decades of captivity. Its beak and claws had overgrown to an alarming degree, preventing it from feeding itself. Alejandro Vásquez, Subdirector Ambiental Área Metropolitana, stated, "The parrot had severe deformities in its feet and beak, making it impossible to feed adequately." The report also revealed that 57% of the 748 parrots received by authorities since 2024 were linked to wildlife trafficking. Veterinarian Roberto Narranjo emphasized the importance of proper diet and habitat for these animals, noting that the parrot's condition resulted from a change in diet. Authorities encourage the public to avoid participating in wildlife trafficking, ensuring the preservation of these species in their natural habitats. The rescued parrot is now recovering, symbolizing hope for the ongoing fight against wildlife trafficking.
