Novi Sad News: Memorial Planned for Train Station Tragedy Victims
Novi Sad, Serbia - In a recent news report, the city of Novi Sad announced plans for a memorial to honor the victims of a tragic train station incident in November 2024. Mayor Žarko Mićin has initiated the project, aiming to create a lasting tribute. Meanwhile, the courts have made decisions regarding those involved in the tragedy. Four suspects had their pre-trial detention lifted, while the detention of five others was extended for 30 days. Separately, police reported a suicide in the Adica neighborhood. A 51-year-old man was found dead in his car; investigators suspect relationship problems played a role. In another development, a 48-year-old woman from Bosnia and Herzegovina was arrested on multiple charges of theft and fraud, targeting elderly Novi Sad residents. "She falsely presented herself as offering home care or medical assistance, then stole money and jewelry," a police spokesperson stated. These events highlight the range of challenges facing Novi Sad, from dealing with the aftermath of tragedy to addressing issues of elder abuse.
