Shocking Vape Nicotine Mislabeling in New Zealand

New Zealand Vape Products Show Widespread Nicotine Mislabeling A recent report in the New Zealand Medical Journal has revealed a shocking level of nicotine mislabeling in vape products sold across the country. The study, which examined 221 vaping products, found that more than half contained nicotine levels different from those stated on the label. Some products had significantly higher levels of nicotine, while others had considerably less. This discrepancy poses significant health risks to consumers, particularly those using vaping as a means to quit smoking. Dr. Jude Ball, Senior Research Fellow at Otago University, who reviewed the data, commented, "It's really problematic for people that are trying to vape as a means of quitting smoking. If the nicotine level is too low, it's not going to satisfy their cravings for nicotine, so they could vape more deeply, exposing them to more toxicants, or they could just give up and go back to smoking." The findings have sparked outrage among health organizations, including Hapai Te Hauora, who are calling for stricter regulations and increased quality control in the vape manufacturing sector. The lack of transparency around these issues is particularly concerning, with Dr. Ball noting the widespread problems with non-compliance in the industry. This situation underscores the urgent need for greater oversight and accountability to protect public health. The report highlights the need for stronger regulatory measures and greater transparency within the vape industry to ensure consumer safety and support those trying to quit smoking. The mislabeling issue is a serious concern that demands immediate attention from regulatory bodies and manufacturers alike.
