Creator of Apple TV+'s #Stick Reveals Golf's Deep Impact on New Series
Jason Keller, the creative mind behind the new Apple TV+ series #Stick, recently shared his motivations for developing a show centered on golf. In an interview, Keller highlighted the sport's significant global growth since the COVID-19 pandemic as a key factor in his decision. "We are certainly seeing a sort of explosion in the world of golf," Keller stated, emphasizing the sport's increasing prominence worldwide. He further elaborated on golf's singular nature, noting, "Golf is this very singular sport. It's somebody out on a golf course really wrestling with their own emotional state, their own mindset." This individual struggle, he explained, makes the sport a compelling backdrop for storytelling. Peter Dager, also featured in the interview, underscored the immense difficulty inherent in professional golf. "Having one good week where you're shooting in the high 60s, low 70s to win a major tournament or to win any tournament is a feat," Dager remarked. He pointed out that even top players, who were the best in college, high school, and as amateurs, often win only a handful of professional tournaments. "It's very tough, so when you win one, the commentators are so alive," he added, illustrating the profound appreciation for success in such a demanding sport.
