TACOMA, WA – A Fourth of July celebration in Tacoma, Washington, took a concerning turn when a fireworks display inadvertently ignited a brush fire, prompting a multi-agency emergency response. The incident, captured in a recent video, occurred despite participants reportedly taking all necessary precautions. The video footage shows individuals launching fireworks near a body of water, with the initial display appearing festive. However, as the display continued, sparks are seen igniting dry vegetation on the ground, quickly escalating into a significant brush fire. The video creator, identified as OWYD Crew, noted in their accompanying description that windy conditions were a major factor in the rapid spread of the flames. Emergency services were promptly called to the scene. Multiple fire trucks responded, and due to the proximity to the water, a fire boat from Tacoma was also dispatched to assist in extinguishing the blaze. Eyewitness accounts suggest the fire was substantial, consuming trees and brush along the waterfront. Fortunately, authorities confirmed that no property was damaged in the incident. The OWYD Crew emphasized the importance of exercising extreme caution with fireworks, especially during windy conditions, stating, “Well, some lessons were learned. Thankfully no property was damaged. It took several fire trucks and eventually a fire BOAT from Tacoma. Sooo - Don’t light fireworks off when it’s windy.” The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential hazards associated with fireworks, even when individuals believe they are taking appropriate safety measures.
