A young Spanish man, Pablo Casas, currently residing in Switzerland, has recently drawn significant media attention and public debate after sharing details of his salary as a dishwasher in the Alpine nation. In a follow-up video, Casas addressed the controversy, providing a deeper insight into his motivations and the realities of his life abroad. He clarified that while his income in Switzerland allows for financial accumulation, the decision to leave Spain was not made lightly. "I am sad to have to abandon a country I love, my family, my friends, and my home, simply to be able to save some money and start a business without half of it being taken away," Casas stated. He detailed the demanding nature of his work, which includes 11-hour shifts, risks of burns and cuts, and even tolerating insults in French, a language he is still learning. Casas emphasized that his primary objective is to build his perfume brand, an entrepreneurial venture he believes would not be feasible in Spain due to what he describes as high costs and unfavorable tax policies for startups. He highlighted that in Spain, such a business might not even exist, or at least half of its potential earnings would be lost to taxes. "The question is not whether it's worth living in Switzerland or if I spend too much. The real question is, if you are a young entrepreneur, is it worth living in Spain?" he posed to his audience. Casas's narrative sheds light on the economic challenges faced by young people in some European countries and the lengths to which they are willing to go to pursue their entrepreneurial aspirations, even if it means significant personal sacrifice and living far from home.
