Orphaned Lynx Released Back into the Wild After Months of Care
In the heart of the Jura Mountains, a heartwarming tale of conservation unfolds. Piva, a young lynx discovered orphaned and weak on a farm in the Doubs region of France, has been given a second chance at life. After seven months of meticulous care at the Athénas Center, a dedicated wildlife rehabilitation facility, Piva was released back into her natural habitat. The video captures the emotional moment of her release and offers insights into the challenges of lynx conservation in France. Gilles Moyne, the founder of Athénas, shares his experience, stating, "During the fifteen days following her arrival, she almost succumbed to typhus." The center's efforts go beyond simple care; they limit human interaction to prevent domestication, ensuring Piva's ability to thrive independently. Before her release, Piva received a GPS collar to monitor her progress. This successful rehabilitation and release adds to the growing population of around 200 lynx currently living in France, a testament to the tireless work of organizations like Athénas.
