Proton Saga 2026: First Look at Next-Gen Features and Powertrain

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Proton's highly anticipated 2026 Saga model, currently under camouflage, has been unveiled at the Proton Centre of Excellence in Shah Alam, following its initial display at the recent ASEAN Summit. While the full reveal is pending, automotive journalist Paul Tan offered an exclusive look at the updated sedan, detailing several significant enhancements. The new Saga is set to feature LED projector headlights, L-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs) integrated into an "Ethereal Bow" design, and a distinctive large, curved, full-width grille. "This is the first time the Saga will get LED projector headlights and Aeroblade wipers," Tan noted. The vehicle is also expected to adopt an updated AMA platform and a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, a detuned version of the X50 facelift's engine, lacking turbocharging and direct injection. Inside, a new long digital screen, a redesigned gear knob, and an X50 facelift-derived steering wheel are visible. Perhaps the most striking safety upgrade hinted at is the potential inclusion of six airbags, a considerable improvement over some competitors. The 2026 Saga will be available in Standard, Executive (both with automatic transmission), and Premium (with CVT) variants, marking a shift towards more automatic options.
