Norwegian Nightmare: Cargo Ship Runs Aground Near Home
Cargo Ship Runs Aground in Norway, Captain Reportedly Asleep at the Helm A bizarre incident unfolded in the early hours of May 24th in Byneset, Norway, when the 135-meter cargo ship NCL Salten ran aground just meters from a residential home. The ship, carrying goods to Orkanger, veered off course in the Trondheim fjord, coming to rest in an incredibly close proximity to Johan Helberg's house. "I was sound asleep," Helberg recounted, "when my neighbor knocked on my door, completely startled. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the ship." The 16 crew members onboard, representing a mix of nationalities including Norway, Lithuania, Ukraine, and Russia, were unharmed. Preliminary investigations suggest the captain may have fallen asleep at the helm, leading to the vessel's deviation from its planned route. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the incident. Remarkably, no fuel spills or significant environmental damage have been reported. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maritime safety and vigilance. The NCL Salten is currently undergoing assessment and salvage operations.
