El doctor Jaume Fatjó aclara si estos animales deben salir al exterior de la misma manera que los perros
A recent podcast episode from Podimo's 'Tenía la duda' series featured Jaume Fatjó, a renowned veterinarian and ethologist, who shed light on the complex emotional lives of felines, specifically addressing whether cats experience sadness from not being taken outdoors. Fatjó explained that while a significant number of cats do enjoy outdoor excursions, an indoor lifestyle is perfectly acceptable, provided their home environment offers sufficient stimulation and enrichment. However, the expert issued a strong caution against the practice of leash walking cats. He elaborated that this method can strip cats of their fundamental 'sense of agency' – their innate ability to decide their movements and actions. This loss of control, Fatjó noted, can be detrimental to a cat's psychological well-being, potentially leading to behavioral issues, including aggression. He stressed the importance of allowing cats the freedom to choose when to engage with their surroundings, seek refuge, or return home, a liberty often compromised by a leash.
