A Ukrainian mother, known online as "Prykhodko," recently shared a candid video detailing her family's struggle with rising food prices. In the viral clip, she revealed that 5,000 Ukrainian Hryvnia (approximately 125 USD) was only enough to feed her household of six people, two dogs, and a cat for a mere five days. The video, uploaded on July 2, 2025, shows the woman unpacking her recent grocery purchases, which included a variety of essential items. Among the groceries were bread, sausage, ketchup, sliced cheese, meat for borscht, chicken quarters, hot dogs, herring, green onions, pink tomatoes, dill, chanterelle mushrooms, cucumbers, carrots, and cabbage. Additionally, she bought dairy products such as cottage cheese, sour cream, and butter, along with some cookies and shampoo. Notably, she also purchased bones for her dogs and chicken stomachs for her Bengal cat, emphasizing that her cat exclusively eats chicken stomachs. "I took only 5,000 Hryvnia with me," she stated, reflecting on past times when the same amount of money would yield several bags of groceries. "Now, the budget is already tight. I can say that my meat position has slightly dropped." She expressed her frustration with the diminishing purchasing power, noting that her refrigerator was almost empty before this shopping trip. The woman highlighted that the cost of items from one store amounted to 1,768 UAH, while items from the market totaled 2,700 UAH. This included 3 kg of bones for her dog and 4 kg of chicken stomachs for her cat. She concluded by questioning how much she would minimally need to earn per month to afford food for her family at their desired standard, stating, "I won't go shopping with 5,000 Hryvnia again. This was just an experiment to see how much one needs to spend for a family of six." Her video resonates with many facing similar economic pressures, shedding light on the daily financial realities for large families in Ukraine.
