Fan with Disability Denied Access to Chilean Stadium: "It's Terrible"
A fan with reduced mobility was denied access to the preferential area of the stadium during a Copa Libertadores match between the University of Chile and Carabobo. According to the complaint filed on social media by lawyer José Toro Kemp, his friend Sebastián Carreño, who has a disability card, was prevented from entering the preferential area due to his limited mobility. Despite having a disability card, the security personnel argued that he needed a wheelchair or a higher percentage of disability to access the area without steps. Carreño stated, "At the second checkpoint, a person said I couldn't go through because I only have 25% disability. They said I needed a wheelchair or 70% mobility to access the step-free area. They told me to leave the stadium and enter through Andes, which had never happened before." The situation escalated, with security personnel eventually carrying Carreño up the stairs. This incident highlights the need for better accessibility measures in sports venues and raises questions about the treatment of people with disabilities in Chile. The incident was reported in social media and the CHV program "Contigo en Directo".
