Manila, Philippines – Renowned sustainable fashion designer, host, and model R'Bonney Nola has embarked on an ambitious new project, acquiring 15 leather jackets from a local "ukay-ukay" (thrift store) with the aim of transforming them into a fresh, upcycled fashion collection. Nola, known for her advocacy in sustainable fashion, shared her recent finds in a video, detailing her plans to repurpose the vintage garments. "I bought 15 leather jackets at the ukay-ukay thrift store, and I want to show you all what I got," Nola stated in her video, showcasing a variety of styles and colors, including black, brown, off-white, and burgundy. She expressed excitement about the quality and potential of the materials, noting, "This one I bought is so long, so I can actually use this and cut it up to make something. I’m thinking boots." Nola plans to create a diverse range of items for her new collection, including "corsets, mini skirts, long skirts, you name it." She encouraged her audience to provide suggestions for her designs, demonstrating her collaborative approach to sustainable design. During the video, she also shared a lighthearted moment, showing an older woman trying on one of the cream-colored jackets, remarking, "Oh my gosh, that looks really good. I’m gonna have to give that one away." This project underscores Nola's commitment to reducing textile waste and promoting innovative, eco-conscious fashion.
