Romanian Research Institute Salaries: Higher Than All Government Ministers Combined?
Romania's Research Institutes: Salaries Exceed Ministers' Combined Pay Romania's 178 state-funded research institutions are under scrutiny following a Realitatea Plus report highlighting exceptionally high salaries. The report revealed that some researchers earn more than all government ministers combined, raising concerns about public spending. Realitatea Plus presenter, in the video, stated: "In some cases, salaries are higher than all the ministers' salaries combined." This shocking claim is supported by examples cited in the report, including the National Institute for Turbo Engines (INCD Turbomotoare COMOTI) in Bucharest, where salaries reportedly reach over 42,000 RON per month. The National Institute for Delta Danube Research in Tulcea also shows high salaries, exceeding 32,000 RON per month. The report raises questions about the efficiency and transparency of funding for these institutions. While the research conducted by these institutes is undoubtedly valuable, the disparity between researchers' salaries and those of public servants requires further investigation. The report serves as a call for greater accountability and a more equitable distribution of public funds.
