In a creative display of sustainable design, local stylist Sarah Teresinski, known online as Redeux Style, has transformed a vintage coal scuttle bucket into a charming and functional bird bath. The project, shared in a recent video, highlights the potential for repurposing antique items into new, eco-friendly home decor. Teresinski acquired the brass coal scuttle, complete with distinctive Delft handles, for less than ten dollars. "It was definitely a thrift score," she stated in her video, emphasizing the value found in secondhand items. Her vision for the bucket was to create a welcoming spot for local wildlife in her front yard. The transformation involved filling the scuttle with pea gravel and water, then integrating a solar-powered fountain specifically designed for bird baths. The fountain's adjustable extenders ensure a secure fit, preventing movement. "It's got little extenders on the side so you can make it fit perfectly," Teresinski explained. She noted that while the fountain initially runs slowly, it achieves a "really good, nice high little fountain" once it has absorbed sufficient sunlight. Since installing the upcycled bird bath, Teresinski has observed birds perching on the handles and enjoying the water. "The birds perch on the little handle and then they jump down and they swim around in it," she shared, expressing satisfaction with the project's success. This initiative not only provides a habitat for birds but also serves as an inspiring example of how everyday objects can be given a second life, promoting sustainable living and creative landscaping.
