Sucre Councilors Spark Outrage With Request to Skip Queues for Essential Goods
Sucre, Bolivia – A request by Sucre's municipal councilors to have essential goods reserved for them has sparked widespread controversy in the city. The councilors, in a letter to the state-owned Empresa Municipal de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado (Emapa), requested the reservation of 10 six-liter packages of oil, 10 ten-kilogram packages of noodles, and 20 units of liquid detergent. They justified their request by claiming their busy work schedules prevent them from joining the long queues typical for such products.
"It's hard to believe," said Andronico Rodriguez, a local resident interviewed in the video, expressing his disbelief at the councilors' request. "People are lining up since early morning to get these things, and they want special treatment?"
The request has drawn sharp criticism on social media, with many accusing the councilors of abusing their positions for personal gain. The video showcases footage of the council meeting where the decision was made, along with interviews with residents expressing their frustration and anger. The incident highlights the ongoing struggle for equitable access to essential resources, particularly in the face of economic hardship.
