Cochabamba Roadblocks: Morales Supporters Intensify Protests
Cochabamba, Bolivia – Supporters of former President Evo Morales have intensified their protests, establishing 14 roadblocks across the department. This action is a direct response to Morales' ineligibility to run in the upcoming August general elections. The demonstrations, initiated on June 1st, have caused significant disruptions and continue to escalate.
"The roadblocks are a necessary measure to pressure the government," stated one protester, who declined to be named. "We will not stop until Evo Morales is allowed to run."
The roadblocks are located at key points, including the route to the west (Sipe Sipe), the Pancuma bridge, and the Chay Grande intersection. Further blockades are reported on the old Santa Cruz highway and along the new Santa Cruz route. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, but so far, there have been no reports of major violence.
The ongoing protests highlight the deep political divisions within Bolivia and the significant influence of Morales's supporters. The situation will likely continue to evolve, and the government will need to address the concerns of the protesters to find a resolution.
