Santa Cruz, Bolivia Faces Rising Caldo Prices
Santa Cruz, Bolivia is experiencing a surge in the cost of caldo, a traditional breakfast food enjoyed by thousands. This price increase, ranging from 2 to 3 Bolivianos, is placing a significant strain on the budgets of low-income families. Red Uno journalist J. Carlos Calvimontes reports on the impact of this rise in the cost of living.
"First, the price of potatoes with eggs went up," explains Calvimontes, "and now the caldo, a common breakfast for people in the neighborhoods, is also more expensive." He interviewed a local resident who confirmed the price jump, stating that a bowl of caldo, once costing 12 Bolivianos, now costs 15. The resident expressed concern about the increasing difficulty of affording this daily meal, particularly for families.
The rising cost of caldo reflects broader economic challenges in Santa Cruz. The increase in the price of essential food items highlights the need for measures to mitigate the impact on vulnerable communities. The situation underscores the importance of affordable access to basic necessities for all citizens.
