Bolivian President Luis Arce stated in a recent interview that the country is actively working to prevent a default on its external debt obligations. The President emphasized the critical need for parliamentary approval of new credits to ensure the nation can meet its financial commitments. "We are trying not to enter into default," President Arce declared, highlighting the importance of securing new financial resources. He explained that servicing existing external debt, which involves paying both capital and interest, requires a continuous inflow of new disbursements to compensate for the outflow of dollars. Arce warned that without the necessary resources, Bolivia would be making the "worst deal" as a country. He stressed that the government's intention is to honor its debt, but this is contingent on the availability of funds through approved credits. According to the World Bank, Bolivia's current debt stands at 37.2% of its Gross National Income, underscoring the scale of the financial challenge.
