La Paz, Bolivia – An economic analyst has issued a stark warning regarding Bolivia's economic outlook, as the country's semi-annual inflation rate has surged to 15.53% by June, significantly surpassing the government's projections for the entire year 2025. The analyst, Juan Fernando Subirana, attributed this sharp increase primarily to ongoing blockades and the impact of the parallel market exchange rate on the prices of basic goods. During an interview, Subirana highlighted that while the overall inflation could reach 30-35% by year-end, the inflation specifically for food items might climb as high as 38%. He emphasized that the official exchange rate is unlikely to revert to its previous levels, urging the public to adjust their household budgets and prioritize essential consumption in light of these economic challenges. The analyst stressed the need for structural changes, including promoting exports and strategic economic sectors like agriculture and hydrocarbons, to attract more foreign currency and stabilize the economy.
