Meet Hatcher, The Orphaned Moose Calf Rescued In Alaska
Hikers found an orphan baby moose only a few days old. He now lives at Williams Reindeer Farm where staff and visitors can watch him grow.
Palmer, Alaska – A heartwarming story of rescue and new beginnings unfolds at the Williams Reindeer Farm in Palmer, as they welcome Hatcher, an orphaned moose calf. Hatcher, named after the nearby Hatcher Pass, was discovered by hikers on May 27, 2025, crying beside his deceased mother in Ninilchik, Alaska. Recognizing the calf's inability to survive alone in the wild, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game intervened, deeming him a suitable candidate for rescue. Estimated to be only 2-5 days old at the time of his arrival, Hatcher has since been adjusting remarkably well to his new home at the family-owned farm. "Hatcher has been taking the bottle like a champ!" stated a representative from Reindeer Farm. "He is steadily growing used to his new Farm Family environment." Visitors to the farm can observe Hatcher from a distance, with the farm requesting calm and quiet behavior to help the young calf continue his adjustment. The Reindeer Farm expressed their excitement about raising another baby moose, emphasizing the importance of contacting the Alaska Department of Fish and Game for any orphaned wildlife encounters to ensure proper placement with educated facilities.
