Ugandan Vet's Inspiring Conservation Work Saves Nearly 1,000 Animals
Kampala, Uganda – Martina Kia is a Ugandan veterinarian who is making a difference in wildlife conservation. At the CTC Conservation Center near Kampala, she cares for nearly 1,000 animals from over 40 species. "There are quite a number I have saved from death," Kia says, highlighting the challenges and rewards of her work. One of her most successful cases is Sarabi, a white lioness who suffered from a nutritional deficiency. Kia implemented a health plan, and Sarabi is now a healthy five-year-old with many offspring. Kia's journey into wildlife conservation began when she worked at a small animal clinic in Kampala. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was contracted by the CTC Conservation Center, where she continues to make a lasting impact on Uganda's wildlife. Her dedication and passion serve as an inspiration to others working in conservation.
