‘I just had to check’: Why are women holding Always, U by Kotex, and Equate pad…
Hundreds of women have been holding their pads up to strong, bright lights in their homes after seeing a viral video on TikTok.
Kampala, Uganda - A viral video posted by TikTok user Ritah Mia (ritah.mia08) has ignited a significant public health discussion regarding the quality and safety of "Always" brand sanitary pads. The user, who identifies herself as a long-standing, loyal customer of the brand, shared a deeply concerning discovery after conducting a personal inspection of a new, unopened sanitary pad. Prompted by a growing number of similar reports on social media platforms, Mia decided to examine her own supply. In her video, she held a fresh pad up to a bright light, revealing extensive internal discoloration and what appeared to be dark, irregular, mold-like substances embedded within the absorbent material. "I'm scared for my life," Mia stated, conveying her shock that the pad's exterior appeared completely clean and uncompromised, effectively concealing the internal defect. She underscored her intention to raise broad awareness among consumers and issued a direct appeal to the "Always" brand for a transparent explanation. "It would be helpful if we got an explanation to see if we should worry or not," she added. The video, uploaded on October 19, 2025, from Uganda, has rapidly accumulated over 20 million views and 2.1 million likes, signaling a widespread public interest and concern about product integrity and consumer safety. This incident highlights a critical need for rigorous quality control in feminine hygiene products and calls for immediate investigation by manufacturers and relevant regulatory bodies to ensure consumer trust and well-being.
