Gardaí Use High-Tech Devices to Police E-Scooters in Limerick
Limerick Gardaí Roll Out New E-Scooter Policing Technology Limerick City is leading the way in e-scooter enforcement with the introduction of portable dynamometers. These innovative devices, used by the Garda Roads Policing Unit, accurately measure the speed of e-scooters, helping to ensure compliance with the 20km/h speed limit. Inspector Padraig Sutton stated, "It's an excellent device for our use because prior to now, it's very difficult for us to estimate with any accuracy the speed of an e-bike or an e-scooter." The dynamometers, which resemble mini treadmills, provide clear and indisputable speed readings. In one instance shown in the video, an e-scooter was found to be traveling at 47 km/h, resulting in its seizure. The Gardaí have four of these dynamometers in use nationwide, demonstrating a commitment to improving road safety and e-scooter regulation. This technology represents a significant advancement in e-scooter policing, ensuring safer roads for all.
